Leroy Mokgatle is an 19-year-old dancer from South Africa. His professional training began at the Art of Motion School in Johannesburg. He is now training at The National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam, having been awarded a scholarship to attend.
At the age of 8, Leroy accidentally took up a ballet class as an extra-curricular activity, but ended up falling in love with it and never wanting to stop. Since taking it up and moving to Amsterdam, he has won numerous competitions and awards including the Genée International Ballet Competition at Sadlers Wells and the Prix de Lausanne ‘Audience’s Choice Award’. He was branded by CNN as “South Africa’s Billy Elliott”.
