London Fashion Week Men's is fast approaching, and with it a line-up of exciting new talent on the catwalks. We profile the menswear models to know now.
Founded in 2013, SUPA model management is a mens-only agency which nurtures exciting new talent and develops rising stars into established names. As a season of menswear begins, Culture Trip caught up with some of the SUPA models to find out about the hottest faces coming to the city this season.
Dylan Fender
A show opener for Dries Van Noten AW17, Californian Dylan Fender is a male model of the moment. His numerous catwalk accolades include Craig Green, Blood Brother, Fendi, Prada, Valentino, Ann Demeulemeester and Dior Homme – and that’s just for the AW17 shows. Off the catwalk, he’s also appeared in numerous shoots, and fronted campaigns for Prada. Certainly one to watch – expect to see even more of Dylan this season.
Culture Trip: Where are you from?
Dylan Fender: I’m from Northern California, near the Redwood Forest.
CT: Where is your favourite city?
DF: My favourite city so far has been London. It’s comfortable, calm, polite. I really enjoy the culture, and like the more natural feel of the city. Especially after working in New York for a bit.
CT: What music do you like?
DF: I like a lot of things. I’ll just list my most listened to this week – Gandalf, The Books, Cocteau Twins, Scallops Hotel, and The Caretaker. It tends to range from psych-rock to experimental.
CT: How did you start as a model?
DF: I got my start after a friend recommended I do a photo shoot for fun. Then I got signed after the photographer sent over the pictures to a local agency.
CT: What do you do in your free time?
DF: I like to read, write and listen to music. I just started my gap year, so have a lot of extra time I didn’t have previously.
Dylan Moran
A DJ and producer, Dylan Moran took to the catwalks for Belstaff, Miaoran and Wood Wood for the AW17 shows. As his Instagram will tell you, Moran is making waves with established designers but doesn’t covet the mainstream. Instead, he often works with niche publications, collaborating on exciting and innovative editorials. And he’s funny, too.
CT: Where are you from?
Dylan Moran: The bog, Ireland. It’s like a black beach but the water only comes from the sky (rain).
CT: Where is your favourite city?
DM: I’ve only been to Berlin once but already I want to move. The people there create a very welcoming atmosphere for all. They know how to enjoy a drink, food and life in general, and well, of course, it’s the home of some of the best Techno.
CT: What music do you like?
DM: I produce electronic music so that’s where my heart’s been at since I’ve been a teenager. Electronic aside, I’m open to all genres. My playlists would probably confuse the average soul.
CT: How did you start as a model?
DM: I was scouted in Dublin by a vintage store who went on to start an amazing agency, they pushed me here, allowing me to leave behind my old job as an ever so interesting IT consultant.
CT: What do you do in your free time?
DM: Most of my free time consists of me hibernating, making music, but apart from that I am not much of a hermit. I’m very happy to be travelling and learning as much as possible along the way, as well as being a social Sally from time to time.
Hugh Laughton-Scott
London-born model Hugh Laughton-Scott had a great AW17 season, walking for Christopher Raeburn, Vivienne Westwood, Salvatore Ferragamo, Off-White, Rynshu and Valentino. Off the catwalk, Hugh has appeared in shoots for Grazia France, and campaigns for Topman. He’s also regularly photographed on the street style circuit, so watch out for him on the streets of London this June.
CT: Where are you from?
Hugh Laughton-Scott: I’m from south London (where it’s at). Although not the fashion metropolis of the world, it’s home.
CT: Where is your favourite city?
HLS: Probably Paris due its cool bars, and the food – this can be visibly noticed when I get back from fashion week.
CT: What music do you like?
HLS: My favourite music (and the best) is definitely rock‘n’roll – bands like Oasis, Joy Division, Blur and Queen.
CT: What do you do in your free time?
HLS: I tend to just hang out with mates, watch sports – the usual stuff. I also play loads of sport, such as tennis, skiing and sailing. Tragically I am also a qualified sailing instructor, lol.
James Beatty
Canadian model James Beatty walked for Topman, Blood Brother, MSGM, White Mountaineering and Wooyoungmi during AW17, and is gearing up for another exciting season next month. A relatively new face on the scene, expect James’ chiselled jaw to make a splash on this side of the Atlantic during London Fashion Week Men’s.
CT: Where are you from?
James Beatty: Canada
CT: Where is your favourite city?
JB: Favourite city is Tokyo
CT: What music do you like?
JB: I like rap music
CT: How did you start as a model?
JB: I got started as model because of luck for sure, I’m a real funny lookin’ bastard
CT: What do you do in your free time?
JB: I really like driving fast and modifying cars, eating good food, smoking cigarettes and enjoying beers with my friends. I also like collecting vintage jackets, my friends and I have about 200 coats all together.
Myles Dominique
Myles Dominique walked at every major show for AW17, making him one of the hottest names in the industry at the moment. Having been booked for the likes of Dior Homme, Kenzo, Lemaire, Marni, Craig Green and Wales Bonner (alongside many more), Dominique has also generated major hype off the catwalk, appearing in campaigns for Burberry and fronting magazine covers for the likes of Varón Magazine. An exciting name to know, SS18 is set to be huge for this rising star.
CT: Where are you from?
Myles Dominique: Lewisham, South London. Family comes from St. Michael, Barbados.
CT: Where is your favourite city?
MD: New York – for the food.
CT: What music do you like?
MD: Futures, Drake’s Views
CT: How did you start as a model?
MD: I got scouted by Charlie (founder of SUPA) at a corner shop in Peckham.
CT: What do you do in your free time?
MD: I like to play football a lot, and going out to eat with my friends.
Raith Clarke
A relatively new name on the scene, the AW17 circuit was just the beginning for model Raith Clarke. Having previously walked for Blood Brother, Raith’s distinctive freckles are set to land him exciting new campaigns for the season ahead. Watch this space.
CT: Where are you from?
Raith Clarke: I’m from a small city in the East Midlands called Derby. There isn’t really much to do there but it’s home to me and always will be!
CT: Where is your favourite city?
RC: London is my favourite city because there is always something to do, whether it be going to a museum, getting tickets to see an up-and-coming musician, or of course partying.
CT: What music do you like?
RC: I don’t really have a favourite genre of music but I like to think of myself as more of an old soul. If you look through my playlist, the likes of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Nat King Cole make an appearance, but obviously I am still a fan of more modern music too – like grim and hip hop.
CT: How did you start as a model?
RC: I wasn’t technically scouted. My friend Tom (who is also from Derby) moved down to London for uni a couple of years ago and since then kept pushing me to come down and give modelling a go. Eventually he managed to get me here at the end of 2016 for a test shoot, from there we sent the images to SUPA and the rest is very recent history!!
CT: What do you do in your free time?
RC: I just like to chill with my friends and take every day as it comes. We always end up doing something interesting.
